Vance Junious Turrentine, affectionately known as “Rudy,” was born in Granville County on March 17, 1947, to the late Leo Turrentine and Alma Morgan. He peacefully departed on January 18, 2025, at Universal Health Care in Oxford, NC.
Rudy was raised by his late stepfather, Carl Hilliard, following the passing of his birth father. He received his education through the Granville County Schools and developed a deep love for family, which remained a cornerstone of his life. In his earlier years, Rudy enjoyed traveling to Washington, DC, and Maryland to visit loved ones, creating cherished memories.
Rudy is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne Turrentine, his brothers, Robert and Stephen Turrentine, and his sister Dorothy Turrentine.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Natasha Nelson, and four adoring grandchildren: Nyheem Thomas, Ayden Williams, Nakayia Thomas, and Ava Williams, all of Oxford, NC. In addition, Rudy leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember him fondly.
Rudy’s warmth, love for family, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
