Robert Earl Smith

October 25, 2023, marked the day when Robert Earl Smith peacefully transitioned his life at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Born to John Irvin Smith and Katie Bell Smith, Robert Earl will forever be remembered for his vibrant spirit and loving nature.

Robert Earl received his education from the Franklin County Public School systems, shaping him into the remarkable individual he became. He dedicated his professional career to Gate Products, where his hard work and dedication shone brightly. He found joy in the camaraderie of his colleagues, leaving a lasting impression on those he worked alongside.

Beyond his professional life, Robert Earl found solace in various hobbies and passions. He had an undeniable passion for card games, chess, dancing, and basketball. These activities brought him immense joy and allowed him to forge meaningful connections with others.

In 2022, Robert Earl faced a challenging illness, leading him to move in with his beloved daughter, Tracy. During moments when he desired quiet, he would offer his trademark phrase, "Hush Puppy," bringing lightheartedness and laughter to those around him.

Robert Earl was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Wright, and brothers, George Smith, Danny Smith, and William Thomas Smith. While they may be physically absent, their memory and the bonds they shared will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother Herman Smith and his sister Erma Jean Smith, whose love and support will endure. Additionally, Robert Earl will forever be remembered by his best friend Terrance Ward, affectionately known as "Peter." Their bond of friendship brought immeasurable joy and support throughout their lives.
