It’s hard to put into words the kind of person Johnny Julius Williams was—because to know him honestly, you had to love him. Johnny, the son of the late Cullen Peace and Mary Julia Brandon Williams, was born on July 24, 1952, and transitioned to his eternal rest on July 29, 2025.
Johnny grew up in Granville County, attended the local public schools, and was raised in the Ilong Baptist Church in Kittrell, North Carolina. Known for his quick wit and sharp tongue, Johnny never hesitated to talk junk to everyone—yet, beneath that tough exterior was a heart full of love and laughter. If you knew Johnny, you knew he had a signature way of calling everyone “Uggy”—a name that became a symbol of his unique way of showing affection.
Johnny was a genuine people person—always ready with a joke, a smile, or a kind word. His sense of humor was infectious, and he loved bringing joy to those around him. An avid yard worker, Johnny found joy in mowing the lawn, often taking his mower through town to share that little piece of himself with everyone he met. He never met a stranger; everyone was “Uggy” in his world.
Johnny will be deeply missed by his numerous siblings, extended family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His longtime caregiver and best friend, Mary Faines, was a special part of his life and cared for him with unwavering love and devotion until the very end.
Though Johnny’s words could be sharp, his love was genuine and steadfast. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and unforgettable memories that will forever be cherished.
Rest in peace, Johnny. You may have talked junk to everybody, but to those who knew you, you were simply irreplaceable.
