Joel Devon Perry Sr. passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Duke University Hospital. Born on November 2, 1979, to Nelson T. Harris and the late Fay Marie Perry, Joel's departure has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones.
Joel's education took place in the Franklin County School System, where his vibrant personality and gentle nature endeared him to all who knew him. He was known as the family's jester, always ready with a joke to brighten the day.
In his passing, Joel is reunited with his beloved mother, the late Ms. Fay Marie Perry. He is survived by his father, Nelson T. Harris of Granville, NC, and stepfather Anthony Mangum of Wilmington, NC. Joel's memory lives on through his four children: Tiyana Perry, Ja’Leik Skipwith, Joel Perry Jr., and Shadijah Skipwith, all residing in Henderson, NC.
He is also survived by his siblings: Shatok (Michael) Patterson of Scranton, PA; Tamika (Ahmad) Perry of Fayetteville, NC; LaTosha (Derrick) Lawrence of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; Cassandra Perry of Henderson, NC; Freyau Perry of Memphis, TN; Katrina (Tracy) Watson of Franklinton, NC.; Kevin (Tiffany) Perry, Doral (Sheena) Perry, Angel Perry, Anthony Mangum Jr. all of Wilmington, NC; Murice Brooks (Jamie), Cedric Rogers, Corey Royster, Caren Mangum, and Deshawn Royster all of Durham, NC; and Anthony Royster of Atlantan, GA.
Joel shared a special bond with his friend of 17 years, Ms. Denise “Weasy” Skipwith, who will forever cherish his memory. Additionally, he leaves behind a treasure trove of fond recollections for numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Joel Devon Perry Sr. will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and the love he shared with those around him. May his spirit live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
