Jerome Kee Mitchell, son of the late Robert Mitchell and Josephine Lewis Mitchell, was born on August 27, 1957, in Vance County, North Carolina. He entered eternal rest on February 9, 2026, at the Hampton Manor Living Facility.
Early Life and Faith
Jerome grew up in the Greystone community and attended public schools in Vance County. He attended the Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church in Henderson, North Carolina, and, as he grew older, continued his faith journey there.
Employment and Hobbies
Jerome was employed with Harriet and Henderson Yards and retired from Franklin Brothers Nursery. His hobbies included softball, walking, and dancing. He had a strong love for his family and was a devoted son and sibling.
Family and Memorial Tributes
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Josephine Louise Mitchell; five brothers (Kenneth Mitchell, James Mitchell, Roscoe Mitchell, Larry Mitchell, and Charlie Mitchell); and two sisters (Ernestine Mitchell and Juanita Warren).
He leaves to cherish his memories one son, Michael Jerome Pettaway; three brothers, William Mitchell, Edward Mitchell (Naomi), and Joe Lewis; two sisters, Bernice Mitchell and Jessica Jordan; three grandchildren, Y’mijer M. Alston, Michael I. Pettaway, and Mikhia J. Pettaway; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Final Resting
May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
