James Faines Obituary

James Melvin Faines, a devoted husband, loving father, and hard-working outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, at his home in Henderson, North Carolina, surrounded by his beloved family. Born to Roosevelt Vernen Faines and Lula Gloria Jefferson Faines, James was a cherished member of the community and a source of inspiration to all who knew him.

Growing up in Vance County, James attended local public schools and was active in the Woodworth Baptist Church during his childhood. As an adult, he became a Welcome Chapel Baptist Church member, where he found strength and fellowship. His faith and commitment to family were cornerstones of his life.

James was known for his unwavering work ethic. He dedicated himself to various roles throughout his career. He contributed his talents to Harriett & Henderson Yarns, Inc., Cottrell Furniture, Greenway Tree Service, H.V. Franklin—Tobacco Priming, and Dickerson Enterprise. His hands were rarely idle; he enjoyed staying busy, whether washing cars, fishing, or simply enjoying the great outdoors.

Above all, James treasured his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Denise Faines, and his son, Semaz Hargrove. He also leaves behind a stepson, Barron Magbie (Crystal), and stepdaughters Takisha Magbie, Symeehah Faines (Richard), and Genelle Hill. James is remembered by his four brothers, Vernon Faines (Marilyn), Richard Faines (Symeehah), Tyrone Faines (Jessica), and Sylvester Faines of Houston, TX, as well as his two sisters, Apostle Carolyn Faines (Lee) and Linda Rhem (Ronnie) and two special grandkids that were extremely close to him Kysen Venable and London Blash. James is preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Lula Faines, and his siblings, Samuel Jefferson, Anthony Faines, and Larsie Faines.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Gentiva Hospice Care staff for their compassionate support during this difficult time.

James Melvin Faines will be remembered for his love of family, passion for hard work, and joyful spirit. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
