Dr. Valerie J. Moore-Rountree, a beloved daughter, entrepreneur, and inspiring force in her community, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, at Maria Parham Health in Henderson, North Carolina. Born on November 2, 1961, in Portsmouth, Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of the late John Willis Moore and Daveeda Irene Moore.
Valerie, a proud military brat, spent her formative years in Hayward, California. She graduated from Mt. Eden High School and earned her Associate's and Bachelor's degrees from San Jose State University. Her unwavering commitment to education culminated in a PhD in Business Management from Walden University in 2025, a testament to her determination and hard work.
Valarie began her career in 2006 as a FEMA Agent in IT with the United States government. Along the way, she built many close relationships. As an entrepreneur, Valerie was passionate about creating homemade natural soaps, scrubs, and candles through her business, Valerie's Royal Soap. She was also skilled in carpentry and loved gardening and cooking, sharing her culinary delights with family and friends.
Valerie's strength was evident in her courageous battle with cancer, a fight she faced with grace and an unshakeable faith that God would restore her health. Her spirit was unyielding; she was dedicated to making her dreams a reality and was known for her generosity and support towards others.
One of Valerie's most cherished dreams was to build a retirement home on land purchased by her great-grandparents 120 years ago, a vision she lovingly referred to as her "Golden Girls" dream. This dream reflected her love for family and her desire to create a lasting legacy.
Valerie will be remembered for her accomplishments, warmth, kindness, and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of those who knew her. Her final major accomplishment, attaining her PhD, is a powerful reminder of her relentless pursuit of knowledge and excellence.
Valerie was proceeded in death by her father, John Willis Moore, and mother, Davida Irene Moore, one uncle, Dwight Stovall, and one aunt, Mary Stovall; she leaves to cherish her memories one sister, Simone Lamiss Moore of Owings Mills, MD, one brother John W. Moore, Jr. San Diego, Cal., one Uncle David Stovall the second(Jonnie) Queens, NY, one aunt Ethel Robinson of Portsmouth, Va, one nephew Dominic Lewis I (Sarah) of Mt. Wolfe, Pa., one niece Shantell Moore of Phoenix, AZ, three great nephews Dominic, Enzo, and Eazy, and two great nieces Adalynn, and Giavanna, .and a host of cousin relative and friends.
