Dorothy Terry Obituary

Dorothy Mae Terry, affectionately known as "Dot," daughter of the late William Henry Reid and Bertha Amelia Terry, was born on February 5, 1960, in Vance County, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on August 1, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, perseverance, and unwavering spirit.

From her childhood in Townsville, North Carolina, Dorothy attended the Vance County Public School System, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to learning and community. She faced life's challenges with a fierce determination and a heart full of courage. Growing up, she was active in her community and church, embodying resilience and faith in every step she took. Her relentless fight against obstacles marked her journey through life, never allowing setbacks to define her or diminish her spirit.

Dorothy's dedication to her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant exemplified her caring nature and unwavering commitment to helping others. She worked at Brenthaven Nursing Facility and continued to serve privately, selflessly providing comfort and care to countless families across her community. Her love for cooking and sewing reflected her nurturing soul, and her blunt, outspoken personality was a testament to her honesty and strength—she always spoke her truth with kindness and conviction.

A devout volunteer, Dorothy was actively involved in the Women of Faith Ministry and was a passionate advocate against domestic violence, dedicating her time and energy to supporting and empowering others. Her service and compassion touched many lives and left a lasting impact on her community.

A loving mother to her children, Shawn and Ursula Terry, Dorothy's love knew no bounds. Her heart of gold was evident in her unwavering support and fierce protection of her loved ones. She was a fighter—a woman who faced life's hurdles head-on and never let adversity defeat her.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Reid and Bertha Terry; her brothers William Terry and sister Faydene Lewis; and her child, Christopher Nelson. She leaves behind her two children, Shawn Terry (Dena) and Ursula Terry; her common-law husband, Larry D. Williams; her brothers Larry Terry and John Henderson (Amy); her sisters Mary Terry, Louise Thomas, Jacqueline Terry, and Melissa; her grandson Christopher Carter; her godmother, Rebecca Clark (Alex); her beloved godchildren, Daquon Henderson, Nigee Brown, Princess, and Rosheka Miles; along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends—each of whom she inspired with her resilience and fighting spirit.

Dorothy Mae Terry's legacy is one of a woman who never gave up, who faced every obstacle with courage, and who loved fiercely until her final breath. Her memory will forever inspire those who knew her to stand firm in the face of life's challenges.

Rest in peace, Dorothy — a true fighter and a shining light.
