Clarence Evans Obituary

Clarence Evans, beloved son of Clarence Evans II and Annie Mae Somerville, was born in Vance County on March 10, 1953. He peacefully went home to be with his father in heaven on January 9, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Growing up in Vance and Warren counties, Clarence was an active community member and attended the Vance and Warren County Schools. His spiritual journey began at the Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he fostered a deep sense of faith and community.

Clarence was passionate about gardening and took immense pride in the flowers adorning his yard. He was known for meticulously caring for his vehicles, which he kept “clean as a whistle.” Sundays and Thursdays were sacred to him, as he could always be found in front of the TV, cheering on his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys—a true fan.

A dedicated worker, Clarence retired from Altec after 20 years of service, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Evans II, and his mother, Annie Mae Somerville. He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Evans, of North Carolina; one son, Corwin Evans, of Georgia; three daughters, Tequella Hendrick (Cornell), Shavon Evans, and Crystal Evans, all of North Carolina; and three brothers, Melvin Evans (Cheri) of Nevada, Carlton Wilkins, and Milton Wilkins, both of North Carolina.

Clarence’s legacy also includes 11 sisters: Denise Jones (Samuel), Beulah Bates, Jacqueline Evans (Pete), Talya Somerville, Carolyn Wilkins Wilkerson, Theresa Wilkins, Pamela Wilkins, Marion Vann of North Carolina, Shirley Evans-Wilcox (Carl), Sharon Evans Van Diver (Lawrence), both of New Jersey, and Staci Evans of South Carolina. He was a proud grandfather to Ebonie Alston (Prentice), Cornell Hendrick Jr., Jah’Quell Hendrick, and Carson Evans, and he cherished his beloved grand pup, Max.

He is also survived by one uncle, Robert Hargrove, three aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Clarence Evans will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his love, laughter, and unwavering spirit. May he rest in eternal peace.
