Charles Hodge Obituary

Charles Thomas Hodge Jr., beloved son of the late Charles Thomas Hodge and Lucille Vivian Hodge, was born on July 25, 1950, in Henderson, North Carolina, at Jubilee Hospital. He peacefully entered eternal rest on November 24, 2025, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Early Life and Education

Growing up in Henderson, Charles attended local schools and pursued his education with dedication. He graduated from Henderson Institute in 1968. He then studied at Kittrell College from 1968 to 1970. Charles transferred to Elizabeth City State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and studied from 1970 to 1972.

Career and Community Service

After receiving his education, Charles devoted his life to education and youth development. He became a respected educator, teaching and guiding children of all ages. He is most notably remembered as the Athletic Director of Central Orphanage in Oxford, NC, and head basketball coach for the Vance Senior High School Junior Varsity team. Beyond coaching, he mentored countless young people, helping them become better individuals.

Charles was a tireless Youth Service Advocate within the Vance County community. He dedicated himself to uplifting young people, always striving to build their character, confidence, and sense of purpose. In 1994, he founded and served as President and Owner of the Charlie Hodge Youth Club, a testament to his enduring commitment to youth empowerment.

Family

Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles Thomas Hodge and Lucille Vivian Hodge, his sister, Rosalyn Cooley, and his niece, Mercea Cooley. Charles’ legacy lives on through those who loved him and were touched by his work. He is survived by his son, Charles Hodge, and his wife, Desiree Hodge; one grandson, Charles Xavier Hodge; two nieces, Rene Cooley and Cheri Cooley; his sister, Margaret Hodge; and a circle of family members who cherished him.

Legacy

Charles Thomas Hodge Junior dedicated his life to helping children grow into confident, virtuous, and responsible adults. His gentle leadership, unwavering faith in young people, and hands-on mentorship left an indelible mark on the Vance County community and beyond. He believed in the power of education, sport, and service to elevate individuals and communities alike.

His family, friends, students, and colleagues will remember him for his kindness, his steadfast commitment to youth, and his genuine desire to see every child reach their full potential.

Celebration of Life

The family invites those who were touched by his work and spirit to join in commemorating his life, honoring his legacy, and continuing the values he held dear: education, mentorship, and service to others.
